Professional skincare company expands R&D facility and rolls out advisory board.
August 16, 2026
By: Melissa Meisel
Longevity is the new anti-aging. And professional skincare companies are upping the ante when it comes to visits with a dermatologist as skin health is not just about looking younger anymore.
To mimic the spa-like wellness experience offered outside of a derm’s office, consumers are now getting suggestions for personalized beauty routines to bring home after an in-office glow-up.
Marketers like SkinMedica are rolling out longevity initiatives alongside these customized programs to meet consumers’ needs for education alongside beautification.
New at the Allergan Aesthetics-owned company for 2026 is a “retail experience” at medical practices where clients can test SkinMedica products, learn about the clinical science behind the brand and get personalized beauty regimens recommended by their provider.
And, consumers can now take home the right products for their complexion and beauty needs with bestselling products such as the HA⁵ Hydra Collagen Hydrator with Vegan Collagen or AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser.
The first flagship locations are at The Skin Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ and at Dr. Lycia Thornburg Dermatology in Rapid City, SD. Additional locations planned to open across key US markets throughout 2026, according to the company.
For those shopping online, an AI tool can assist with personalization as well.
SkinMedica recently debuted a Regenerative Science Advisory Board, a national collective of physicians, clinicians and skin health experts. Through in-person collaboration, virtual consultations and curated content across SkinMedica-owned platforms, the advisory board will foster “scientific dialogue, share clinical best practices and help bridge research with everyday patient care,” according to the professional skincare company.
The five steps of the “SkinMedica Method” skincare routines include:
Cleanse Factor: Facial cleansers and treatment pads designed to prep the skin and balance pH.
Growth Factor: Signature targeted serums to support firmness, elasticity and texture.
Correct Factor: Personalized serums and pads to address specific issues like hyperpigmentation, redness or acne.
Hydrate Factor: Hydrators and creams to restore moisture balance.
Protect Factor: Broad-spectrum sunscreens for daily defense
“Scientific innovation is most impactful when it is informed by the clinicians and experts who bring it to life every day,” said Curran. “Their expertise and real-world perspective will help advance scientific education, strengthen collaboration across the aesthetic community and inform future conversations around skin longevity and innovation.” According to Curran, experts span from dermatologists to plastic surgeons. Allergan Aesthetics recently expanded the SkinMedica R&D lab in Irvine, CA.
The “state-of-the-art” lab supports a broad range of pre-clinical research and imaging technologies, according to the company. SkinMedica is also leveraging AI and machine learning to identify novel biological targets to produce products that promote longevity.
“The expanded SkinMedica R&D Lab reflects our commitment to advancing the future of skincare through scientific excellence, strategic collaboration and emerging technologies,” said Dr. Prithwiraj Maitra, PhD, vice president, global skincare R&D, Allergan Aesthetics. “By integrating advanced research capabilities with AI-enabled discovery and clinical expertise, we are accelerating our ability to transform breakthrough science into meaningful innovations that deliver for patients and providers.”
“Through our expanded R&D capabilities and collaboration with the SkinMedica Regenerative Science Advisory Board, we’re strengthening our ability to translate emerging science into meaningful innovations that address the evolving needs of providers and patients,” he told Happi.
